Slicing paper thin onion

As I have limited tools in kitchen and dull knives --- I figured out I could do this with veg peeler.      I love bermuda onions but prefer them in small doses.

Company coming.

Four art friends from long ago are coming to lunch tomorrow. It was fun shopping for colorful foods for them. .    I called my fav nursey to ask them to pick fresh strawberries.   Soooo fresh.    I bought tomatoes at the nursery too.   They had already picked them this am.   I started a loaf of herb bread before I left and by the time I got home it was rising and ready to bake.      Its going to be a pretty healthy lunch.

Wednesday morning sketch

Inspired by Marjorie Glick 's painting "Intensity" in an article in Watercolor Artist magazine. Oct. 2010, pages 34-43.   You can see more about her work at www.artistsnetwork.com/article/marjorie-glick-gallery.

Meet Bruss

I cut open a bag of Trader Joes brussel sprouts and poured them into a steamer.   When I checked on them, turning them over - I noticed this odd little sprout.    Honestly I did not do anthing to change it.   This is a pic.    I could not resist taking the photo.    Then I put Mr Sprout back in the steamer.

Thursday morning sketch

Friday morning redo

The little jar is something I painted before the turn of the century.    I use it as my water jar to wash my brushes.   I had not really looked at for years as it is a fixture.   Lol.   I thought it might be fun to do a watercolor sketch of the art on it.

Succulent class at the nursery

Most saturdays there are classes at my fav nursery.    Last week I purchased some succulents and was wishing I knew more about growing them.  I had the feeling I tend to overwater....   I was right.    This class was just what I needed.      This evening I will be planting andvrepotting some old overgrown ones I have neglected.

Yosemite

It always amazes me how any one place can hold so much beauty.       Trip was short but sweet.

June 7. An extra

Power is off today so activites are limited. No cooking.  No laundry.   No radio or computer. No tv.      So here I sit listening to an old cassette tape of Maya Angelou life story in her own voice - with a paint brush in my hand.    Think I will mop some floors next.    Lol

June 8 - before the fact.

Tomorrow at this time I will be traveling with a group of seniors enroute to Yosemite Valley.    Probably one of the most picturesque places on the planet.       Years ago when I camped there with my sons I would slip off to take the free painting classes while they were hiking.      I dont remember the names of the watercolor artists I received instruction from as our exposure was brief.    In those days I could sit on a rock or stump.    Lol.   Now I need a chair or cushion.
I dont expect to sketch on this trip.   There wont be time.    But I will have my camera so plan on taking pics.      will share more later.

June 4 breakfast sketch ref June Levin

Another nursery photo.

Mixing veggies into flower beds is one of their specialties.

Plein air painters at the nursery

A favorite nursery dating way back in time is up and running again. At least once a month they host an event.   Specialy coffees. Fresh produce.   Gardening worksops. Book signings.    Yesterday the had live music and plein air painters.    Jean and I went together.   Several of the painters wete students of hers in the past.   It was lovely.     I bought 4 new succulents that Im unfamiliar with.     When I got home I ordered a couple books on growing succulents so I can increase my collection. Might even get to know their names.    I love to propogate pkants to share with friends.
